Exploring Onset, MA

A walk to the center of Onset Village includes wonderful, sandy Onset Beach (also called Point Independence Beach), playgrounds, tennis courts, fishing on the town pier, jet ski rentals, movie night at the band shell, a selection of restaurants, small shops and of course fantastic ice cream! Whether you're exploring Onset's Victorian village, kayaking, relaxing on the shore or shopping at the Cape's largest outlet stores, vacationing here is truly what you make of it.

Outdoor Adventures:

Cape Cod Canal  508-749-4431
Both sides of the canal have bicycle paths which are service roads maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Cape-side path runs 6.8 miles. Walk, bike ride, or rollerblade along the paved trail; you can also fish, hike along the nature trails, or just watch the boats go by along the canal.

Rich in history, Eastover farms started out as a small mill community in the 1600's and later became a palatial estate and a working dairy farm. The farm now supports a thriving Cranberry and blueberry operation and a farm stand.

Porter's Thermometer Museum

New Bedford Whaling Museum
This museum is the largest museum in America devoted to the history of the American whaling industry and its greatest port. Through exhibits, publications, and programs, the museum brings to life the whaling era and the history of the local area. It houses the most extensive collection of art, artifacts, and manuscripts pertaining to American whaling in the age of sail - late eighteenth century to the early twentieth, when sailing ships dominated merchant trade and whaling. New Bedford Whaling National Park
Stroll down cobblestone streets, visit the world’s largest whaling museum, tour a whaling merchant’s home and whaleman's chapel, and walk a 19th century schooner’s decks. Stop by the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park Visitor Center and pick up a free Junior Ranger booklet. The booklet includes questions, games, and activities related to the park and its themes. There is also a scavenger hunt for kids of all ages, so make sure you pay attention and stay alert while on your voyage through the park. 30 minute drive
Buttonwood Park Zoo
Nearly 200 species of animals are represented in the Buttonwood Park Zoo, ranging from tiny frogs to enormous elephants. You'll see River Otter, Beaver and Harbor Seals, Black Bears, Asian Elephants, Bald Eagle and Coyotes, Cougars and Bobcats, Fox and Raccoons, Bison and White-Tailed Deer, and more. Stroll through Onset Village and browse many art, craft, gift and antique shops. On your way to the Cape Cod Canal stop and shop at one of the many antique shops just off of Route 6.

Cape Cod Factory Outlet Mall
Visit the largest factory outlet mall on the Cape. Mall includes over 20 nationally known brand name stores including Van Heusen, Izod, Nine West, Reebok, Bass, Oshkosh B'Gosh, Carters are just a few. Also visit the Christmas Tree Shop just around the corner. Only a 20 minute car ride.
Wrentham Village Premium Shopping Outlets
With over 170 outlet stores it is well worth the trip. Something for everyone. 45 minute drive
